I've written a post on my blog today about how I'm moving to America soon. While I love this network and the people on it there's something not quite right about running it from outside the country.
So with that in mind I've decided to pass on the reins to Stephen Shirley from Victoriana Nursery. I didn't sell UKVG I handed it on to Stephen because he seems like a nice chap and he's very active in the community too. He's also in a position to pay the ongoing software costs for hiring the software.
So you might see Stephen posting here a little and making a few changes too. For the good I'm sure.
Flighty will still be the administrator and as he does a sterling job I doubt much will change day to day.
Here's to a thriving 'grow your own' community in the UK and good luck to all for the future.
What an exciting time. I wish you and your family every happiness.
We will miss you. I have so much enjoyed your blog My Tiny Plot as well as the UKVG. Thank you for all you have done and enjoy your new home!
Good old Stephen Shirley for taking it on.....
I have enjoyed reading your blog and will follow your new adventure. Good luck and best wishes.
So as Gill says, I'll be picking things up from where she has left off.
If you're worried about massive changes, the site becoming a side-arm of my business or becoming full of advertising - please don't.
It would be wrong to do any of the above to this wonderful community - so it won't be happening!
There will be a few changes, but not just yet - and nothing drastic I promise.
I've been pretty absent from UK Veg for some time now as we have been working very hard on a website re-design for Victoriana (which we hope will be finished mid September), and by the time I've finished on the computer each day doing stuff on that I want to actually spend sometime growing plants!
So you wont be seeing too much of me until mid September anyway!
I've known Gill now for quite a few years through MTP and really do wish her all the best - and thank her for thinking of me to take over the mantle.
As Gill says, Flighty is going to continue moderating (thank you Flighty) - so its just going to be 'business as usual'.
If any of you have got any concerns or ideas, please don't hesitate to PM me.
Meantime, be nice to each other - and lets try and build on what is (in my opinion) the friendliest Gardening Community on the net.
Gill many thanks for setting up and running UKVG. Good luck with your move, which I'm sure will go well and you'll soon be settled in and, of course, gardening in your new home. My thanks also for your kind words regarding my role here.
Stephen I'm sure that, like me, members will be only too happy to know that you're taking over and that it will be business as usual.
On a personal note I agree that UKVG is the friendliest gardening forum as shown by the very few minor problems that have needed sorting out.
Happy gardening everybody!
Hi Gill thanks enormously for setting this up, it has been a breath of fresh air to us gardeners and plotters, good luck for your future life in Oregon I know it`s a lovely state my American pen pal lived in Portland for many years.
Good luck on your move to the U.S. Thanks for setting up UK Veg, I enjoy it !
ive only been a member for a couple of weeks now and i enjoy the site enormously and starting to make some new friends.Hope all goes well for you and your family in America and good luck.
thankyou neil t
Good luck with the move
The main thing is that the site will continue
What a disaster it would have been if closed down
There isn't another gardening forum anywhere in the works like it
I agree with Darren - this site is like 'home' to me, the first site I joined - good luck for the future.
I would like to thank you for providing such a easy environment for like minded people to discuss their gardens. May I also wish you all the best on your move.
