UK Veg Gardeners

Have been growing our own vegetables for several years in our back garden, which is 100% kitchen garden now.

In October, we got our own allotment too, so we can increase the volume and range we grow.

We usually buy our seeds from two garden centres, Aylett and Burston.

Would also like to check out online catalogues/ suppliers.

Would also like to learn more about heritage varieties.

Can anyone recommend any they find particularly good on range, price and or service?

THANK YOU!

Try Tuckers www.edwintucker.com Very good value for money with minimal packaging and a large range of organic alternatives (If that floats your boat). Seeds come in proper "allotmenteer" quanities rather than the pitiful packets supplied by the big brands.
I have also found More veg to be good for trying something new when you want a small quantity. I buy peas and beans from a local grower/supplier( who sells at markets-locally grown seeds seem to do well in the local environment)-they used to sell by the pint but now in packets due to metrification. You might find a local independent grower/supplier at your nearest market.

Garden Organic (used to be called Henry Doubleday Research Association) have good range of more unusual varieties as well as the well know ones. They also have a heritage seed library which you can join and they send you seeds in exchange for the membership cost.

They are well established and very reliable.

Hi

i have to agree with Darren, Marshalls are great for a wide variety of veg flower seeds and fruit too.   I also like Heirloom tomatoes too, just ordered from them and was very impressed with there speedy delivery they even popped in some free seeds to try of three varieties!!

I have found that Marshalls seeds seem to have a great germination rate too!

Good luck with your allotment

Fantastic, thank you so much, everyone.

Lots of options to check out!

I'll second them. They often cost a bit more than other companies, but I find you get decent quantities of seeds in their packets and they have good germination rates - not to be under-estimated. I once ordered cheap seeds via our Allotment Association scheme we used at the time and whilst they were cheap, the germination rates were very poor.
