UK Veg Gardeners

hello

having had problems with pea moth for the last two years I have netted over my peas this year with a very fine net

however I am now wondering if this is going to cause problems with veg production as do the bees need to be able to get in to pollenate the flowers?

I am also growing broad beans in the same patch so these have also been netted

the type of pea I am growing is 'Kelvedon Wonder'

thanks to anyone that can help

I suffer from pea moth also. There isn't much you can do about it
There is no spray for it, as if you spray with a bug spray, you will deter the bees also
Fine nets such as enviromesh will also stop insects from pollinating
I have had to move my peas at home and before that, grow twice as much as I was getting at least 2 out of 3 peas with the maggot

Spraying at flowering time with a garlic based spray will greatly reduce pea weevil issues.

Just like tomatoes, peas (and beans) are naturally completely self pollinating so do not need any help from our winged friends (though they do like to visit to pinch a bit of pollen).

I netted mine last year and had no problem with pollination  I had so many other sources of pollen for the bees on the plot I don't think they felt hard done by
