Is it too early to start chitting?

I got my seed potatoes yesterday, only a few - 6 Arran Pilot, 6 International Kidney and 6 Desiree.

Should I keep them wrapped up for now or can I put them out to chit? How long do they need to chit before I plant them?

Seems to me that we may as well chit our spuds because once the ground warms up then all the best seed potatoes have been sold, and all we're left with is bags of soft spuds with foot long sprouts.

Your dead right there Colin. And those long sprouts just break off when you try to get the potatoes out of the nets. Even comercial growers like there tatties to have small chits on them.
