UK Veg Gardeners

I noticed today that the elderflowers are just starting to show round here.

Time to sterilize the equipment and get ready for some serious elderflower champagne making. It really is a lovely summer drink.

Yes it is, and so is elderflower cordial.

I'm intruiged though, my elderflower champagne 'equipment' is a bucket. Should I be using anything else ;>)

I use a plastic bucket as well but 'equipment' has a much more professional ring to it :-)
So jealous.  Keep looking for Elderflower & never find any.  But this weekend we setting out & not comming back till I have harvested loads of the stuff.
I'm sure you'll find some, but on the plus side you don't actually need that many to make it. It's supposedly better to pick it in the morning in full sun, but don't know if there's any truth in that.

I make Elderflower cordial which you dilute to taste.  Having a glassful evokes summer for me.  You have to add citric acid for it to clear and keep - my local chemist runs out very quickly - so thanks for reminding me to get cracking Colin.
Would lemon juice or vit C tabs work instead of citric acid??
I don't think so Zoe, maybe, it's what the recipe says - or tartaric acid.
i think i have this in my garden but not sure - can anyone post a photo of a elderflower tree so I can identify it?

Mo posted this picture of an elder previously.  Hope it helps.

I posted one in bloom too but I don't know how to get it from my albums to here.

Picked the first flowers this morning and now have two gallons on the go:-)

As soon as that's bottled I'll set another two gallons away. That should see us through the summer....if we get one up here!

I refuse to ask about your equipment. However, I look forward to seeing the photo of the first glass poured. How long will it take?
