With a little help I managed to get most of this year's onion crop lifted and laid out for initial drying. They stay outside on these trays for a week or so before going into the greenhouse on wire trays where they stay until absolutely dry. I know many people seem to have trouble getting onions to store well but mine usually last till the following March. The trick is making sure they really are dry, till the leaves are brittle like old paper and just fall away from the bulb. Thick-necked ones are used first as these never keep well.
