Bee Swarms

I seem to be hearing a lot about swarms this year.

Steve saw one yesterday - it had him trapped in his van :)

Just wondered if anyone else had seen any?

Haven't seen any myself, but there was a swarm in the centre of York last week - made the front page of the local paper.

Yeah, I Googled and saw that one :)

I know it's swarming season, but I have never heard of so many - maybe my ears are more attuned to bee talk this year ;)

The guy in the know at Forde Abbey in Dorset said the bees have been behaving strangely this year, I read a story today about a householder who has four bird boxes for Tits but has had three of them occupied by Bees, I am sure the heatwave in March and the wet and freezing April and early May and the heat in late May has something to do with it.

I heard another story of bees in a loft yesterday. Apparently it's usually wasps that favour lofts.

there are lots of different types of bees and they like different types of spaces and they are all swarming as usual. if you have them try and leave them alone as there good for your garden and usually don't cause any harm. if you do need to get rid of them there are lots of bee keepers willing to re-home them for free, just Google it. my ex has a large honey bee swarm in my old shed. there happy there and are not causing any problems so there staying.

where is all of this happening?? I haven't seen anything here in Swansea, only the usual bees coming to visit then off they go.

according to the bee keeper who came to look at our hive its a very common thing but most people will rarely see it as they tend to use existing sites you'll only really notice it if they find a new site out in the open somewhere. the bee keeper also said that most bee hives will swarm a few times a year as the hives population and the number of queens increase.
